Theatre is for EVERYONE!
A transgender Texas student was kicked out of the lead role of his high school musical after his principal introduced a new gender casting policy. About two weeks after Max was cast, his family was notified by the school’s principal of a new policy about casting by gender, and Hightower, as well as other students, lost their roles in the production. Max’s father said the principal explained “we’re instituting a new policy where only males can play males, and only females can play females,”. Hightower's family said his identity has never been an issue before and they intend to appeal the decision to the school board. The Sherman Independent School District said the performance of “Oklahoma!” will be under review and has been postponed to Jan. 15, 2024. Please urge the school district to appeal the decision!

PROTECT TRANS CARE NOW - ACLU Petition
The attacks on the freedom and dignity of trans people and their families continue to escalate, with one-third of the country that has passed laws that criminalize and ban access to gender-affirming care. The next stage of the fight for basic LGBTQ freedoms is here, and it affects everyone — even in states that haven’t seen any anti-trans attacks. Legislation has already been introduced by the most extreme anti-LGBTQ Members of Congress, led by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, that would criminalize the health care trans people need. While such a law is beyond the pale, it won’t be the last. Any national ban on gender-affirming care would be devastating. You and your elected Members of Congress are our last line of defense against this national threat.
We must stop any effort to criminalize trans people and the families and communities who love us. Send your message loud and clear: Tell your Members of Congress to protect trans people from discrimination.
TRANS WEEK OF VISIBILITY & ACTION: March 25-31, 2023
From March 25-March 31 we are launching a digital mobilization campaign to build power and support for trans young people and the organizers and communities fighting alongside them. More than 400 bills have been introduced across the country attacking trans youth — from threatening to criminalize health care to investigating families for affirming their children to banning trans youth from school activities, these bills represent a threat to trans survival. Visibility alone won’t save us, take action!
Anti-Trans Legislative Map & Substack
Erin Reed, a trans woman and activist, tracks anti-trans legislation throughout the United States. Every time the landscape changes for a state, she updates its risk accordingly. Use this map to gauge the safety of living in a state for anti-LGBTQ+ legislation for up to 2 years. Erin also writes a newsletter Substack which will keep you up to date and informed on the latest legislation.

Count Me In
As LGBTQ+ people and allies, we have a responsibility to fight for EVERYONE in our movement. Now is the time to get loud, get visible, and spread awareness on behalf of transgender and non-binary people. So please take the actions below – but don’t stop there. The more people who show they care, including allies and trans and non-binary people who speak up for the most marginalized in our community, the more hearts and minds we will change.
Trans Athlete
This page has explanations of the bills that are trying to prevent transgender athletes from participating in high school, and in some cases, college and elementary school sports. For each state, they've provided a list of emails or links to contact lawmakers, as well as a script to use to make it easy. You can copy and paste or add your own thoughts. Each time a bill is heard and voted on, lawmakers take into account the outreach from constituents and others who write in to express support or opposition for a bill. Writing and calling lawmakers does make a difference.

Declare your love and commitment to action to support and fight for trans people. Together we will bring to the foreground the admiration, care, and love that supporters, families and friends radiate out to our transgender & gender expansive community members. Let Us Play
Participating in sports gives young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to learn and play, be part of a team, and nurture relationships. That’s why we’re advocating for real policy change at the federal level. Send a message to the Biden-Harris administration to tell them that ALL trans and intersex students deserve the right to play.
Legislative Tracker: Anti-Transgender Legislation
During the 2023 legislative session dozens of states will consider legislation related to LGBTQ discrimination. Some bills will seek to advance the comprehensive nondiscrimination laws that LGBTQ people so sorely need, while others will almost certainly attempt to single out and target LGBTQ people for unfair and unequal treatment. Do you know what bills are up for legislation in your state?
Equality Forward - Parents affirming their children is not child abuse
Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a non-binding opinion declaring gender-affirming healthcare to be child abuse and Governor Abbott is pressuring the Department of Family and Protective Services to put Paxton's partisan opinion into practice within the agency. Send a message to DFPS urging them to listen to the medical experts and protect transgender kids from politicians like Abbott and Paxton.
Open Letter: Therapists & Medical Providers Against Misinformation
An open letter was written by trans, non-binary, gender expansive and allied therapists and social workers who are concerned about the Renewal Retreat for parents of TGNCNB youth organized by Wider Lens Consulting. The three facilitating therapists have all been linked to a number of known groups, including The Society for Evidence-Based Gender Medicine (SEGM) that oppose gender affirmation and promote conversion therapy practices.

Letter to NASW National
“It’s legislative season again, and yet again, trans people are in the political crosshairs. But today’s anti-trans legislation is going directly for our youth. This is going after kids’ rights to: feel safe at school and home, get medical care, play sports, and have privacy and agency in to whom and where they’re out. This is the worst attack on trans rights in US History and social work as a field has been completely silent. While to-date, several NASW chapters around the country have made independent statements, national has said nothing at all for at least two years.” Jessica Kant, LICSW, MPH

NASW-TX Message to Governor Abbott
The National Association of Social Workers – Texas Chapter (NASW-TX) stands opposed to any efforts to change the definition of child abuse to include “gender affirming care” as referenced in the Texas Attorney General’s non-binding opinion KP-0401 released on February 18, 2022, as well as Gov. Abbott's February 22, 2022 letter to the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Commissioner "directing" DFPS to investigate such accusations. These continued attempts to change the definition of child abuse are in direct opposition to social work values, principles, and our Code of Ethics and pose danger to transgender youth and their families.
